Detroit,Michigan broken down
Old car factories gone
Nice white neighbours all left town
Houses sold for a song
Gone too that high dividing wall
Keeping black from white
No more sales at the shopping mall
With the black lot out of sight
Now it’s down town no mans land
Good business gone to ground
Because the black man took a stand
And voiced his claim out loud
A great pulsating thorough fare
In economic boom
Badly in need of financial repair
And in need of it soon.
Why has Detroit been left to waste?
Another abandoned town
Where is the charm and pride of place?
